titleAmidst the craze of Pepcom Digital Experience, we managed to catch up with Zak Wood from Trendnet, exhibiting the company’s latest offerings. With 2013 the projected approval date for the 802.11ac standard, Trendnet is already taking advantage of the technology to dip into a higher threshold of wireless speed.

The TEW-812DRU was up first, a Dual Band Wireless Router that broadcasts a Wireless AC band of theoretical 1.3Gbps and a Wireless N band at 450 Mbps. “So real throughput, on the AC side, we’re looking at 400 to 500 Mbps.”

The AC adapter is a 2x2 allowing 860Mbps on the AC side, and of course USB 3.0 for the best bandwidth.

Wireless extenders also shared the show, compact to help in cramped areas (such as behind televisions). Simply press the button and it will automatically adopt the network signal, including SSID and security.

Powerline is not a new technology: it takes advantage of existing electrical wiring to channel network communications. Zak demonstrated the smallest adapter available, again in the same theme to not take up room in typically high-traffic areas like power strips behind the entertainment stand. Though Qualcom doesn’t support Gigabit yet, they are hoping next quarter to see an uprgrade.
