Our friends over at ICYDock gave me a call while I was wondering around the show floor this year and asked if I would like to visit the Raidon booth a close partner of theirs and take a quick look at both of their products. Of course we have always loved their innovations, I couldn’t turn down a chance to see what to expect in the coming year. Adam and I slipped over in between our other meetings and took a look.
We first started with a walkthrough of Raidon’s product lineup and having worked with ICYDock a lot in the past I could see a MAJOR resemblance right away. Raidon’s product lineup consisted of different variations of internal and external raid solutions for both business and private use. Each has its own raid card built in giving you no need for an expensive raid card solution. I was especially impressed with their IR2620-2S-S2, a two bay 5.25 device that holds two 3.5 inch hard drives and runs them in RAID 0 or 1. With a built in screen and everything you need to watch the status of your raid this could be an easy solution for a gamer trying to pair up two velociraptor’s in RAID 0 or maybe someone trying to add a little redundancy with two large capacity drives in RAID 1.
Jumping over to see what ICYDock has to offer they showed us a dock similar to what Thermaltake has with its BlacX lineup but as with all ICYDock products they have figured out a way to make you wonder why no one else has done this before. This time it is because of the two clips on the bottom of the dock that release the guts of the device giving you a way to plug in a SATA, 3.5 inch IDE with a Molex connection, and a 2.5 IDE all on one device. Of course the entire thing runs through a USB 3.0 to keep things running quick.
They also showed off a prototype of a new docking bay that will dock both a 3.5 inch SATA drive along with a 2.5 SATA drive. This could make live easy for someone who is constantly swapping out hard drives or uses multiple hard drives as a backup solution. Each of the two drives also will have a power button in case you don’t want to turn them on even while they are docked.
Last they showed off a dock similar to their MB881US-1S-1. This time around it also sports the IDE connections that we saw with their new dock and it will be using a much faster USB 3.0 interface to eliminate any bottlenecks that USB 2.0 was giving you before.
