OWC_globe_logo_503k_jpg_image_copyWe first met Other World Computer (OWC) at the Futurelook party on Wednesday night, one of the sponsors of the event. It was obvious that they dealt in SSD's since one of our writers was drawn as a winner for one. Of course after that we were a little anxious to learn more about their products, since as soon as we returned home we would find ourselves in possession of a 240 model.

OWC's major release for 2011 fills out the roster of the Mercury Pro line, their newest SSD family. The first comes in the form of the Aura Pro Express, a solid-state drive for the MacBook Air that comes in 180, 240, and 360GB flavors. Accompanying the Apple series is the Aura Pro MBA, which iks targeted at the previous 2008/2009 MacBook Air, bringing home 60, 120, 240, and 480GB models.

For PC users, the Pro Legacy Edition of the Mercury EXTREME line is also available, coming in at 40, 60, 120, 240, and finally 480GB models. Joing the Pro Legacy in the IDE/ATA lines, the Legacy Pro is the little brother with a form factor of 2.5" for laptops, and only reaches up to 240GB.

Finally, the Aura Pro 1.8" is a specialty form factor for netbooks and subnotebooks that operate off a 1.8" drive. Sizes included 40, 60, 120, 240, and 480GB.
