plextor logoEindhoven, March 14, 2013—Plextor (www.plextor.com), leading developer and manufacturer of high-performance digital media and storage equipment, showed two new and exciting upcoming SSD solutions for 2013 at the CeBIT show in Hannover last week. These products will feature custom design and development from Plextor’s dedicated in-house team of engineers and world-class facilities.

Individual product launches are scheduled throughout 2013:

M.2 Solid State Drive:
Plextor has readied an M.2 (also known as NGFF – Next Generation Form Factor) SSD solution, which enables the design of SSD at the size of a very small flash drive. At the size of 42 (L) x 22 (W) x 2.3 (H) mm, the M.2 is significantly smaller than existing mSATA models and will be a well-fitted upgrade for Ultrabooks. The new Plextor M.2 solutions has a sequential read and write speed of 500/400 MB/s and a random read / write speed of 70,000 / 70,000 IOPS. Both 128 GB and 256 GB versions will be available. The M.2 solution will first be available as an integration solution for OEM partners and will later become available for the retail channel. More details will be announced at the Computex show this year.

New Series - TLC based Solid State Drive:
In Q3 2013, Plextor adds a new 2.5” TLC based SSD to its lineup. The new series will be available in 256 GB, 512GB, and 1 TB capacities. Combined with Plextor’s own firmware, the TLC based SSD will feature sustained random read / write speeds up to 80,000 / 72,000 IOPS as well as continuous read / write speeds up to 540 / 465 MB/s. The drive will use TLC NAND flash from Toshiba and a new 88SS9189 controller from Marvell®. The new Marvell® controller has better and stronger ECC capability that will make more efficient use of the Program/Erase cycles of TLC NAND flash. The Plextor TLC based SSD will also feature Plextor’s renowned TrueSpeed Technology to prevent drastic performance drop after intense or long-term usage. More details on availability and pricing will be announced at the Computex show this year.

At this year’s CeBIT, Plextor also showcased the visibility of its SSD solutions at the Business Center and by working with different partners:

M5 Pro Xtreme TrueSpeed and Raid 0 Demonstration:
Plextor showed the capabilities of its M5 Pro Xtreme SSD solutions by demonstrating the TrueSpeed feature, keeping the performance of the M5 Pro stable under clean drive settings and dirty drive settings (capacity filled up to 97%).

Additionally, a Raid 0 demonstration with two 512GB drives showed the M5 Pro can achieve great performance of over 1000 Mb/s in sequential read performance when used in this configuration.

ASRock Overclocking Show:
ASRock organized a daily overclocking event at their booth featuring the world’s top overclockers: Nick Shih, SF3D, and Perica Barii, who showed their overclocking skills. They overclocked A10-5800K APUs up to 7.5 GHz on ASRock FM2A85X Extreme6, using Plextor 128 GB M5 Pro Xtreme in their setup to do so!

SilverStone NUC Solutions:
Plextor and SilverStone showcased new NUC barebones at their booths featuring Plextor M5M mSATA SSD solution as a perfect performance booster for Intel’s new platform.

Promise Pegasus J4 Thunderbolt Storage Solution:
Proving Plextor SSDs are well fitted to work with Mac based solutions, Plextor collaborated with Promise Technology, building a prototype of Pegasus J4 semi-professional Thunderbolt storage solution equipped with 4x M5 Pro Xtreme SSDs. Speed measurements taken at the Promise booth showed the J4 driven by 4 SSDs, having big performance potential. Speeds up to 900 MB/s were measured, coming close to the maximum performance of the Thunderbolt interface.
