MechWarrior 4 FREE was created by drpain

Smith and Tinker are re-releasing MechWarrior 4 for free to celebrate Battletech's 25th anniversary and MekTech's 10th.

This release includes the game plus the Clan Pack, Inner Sphere pack, Mech 4 Mercs pack which gives the players over 105 different Mechs and 115 different weapons. Sorry they aren't including Vengeance of Black Knight expansions.

The servers are getting swamped right now so good luck connecting to download the 1.7GB file.

I'll try, I was only able to bring the page up once so far but I'm downloading the massiveness that is Dirt 2 so once that is done I'll try this weekend and nab it.

Well, the site is back up in order to install their MTX installer/updater client. That much goes smoothly. However, they are using bittorrent for distribution and it is SLOW. Current time remaining estimate is 1 - 2 weeks.

The download picked up later in the day and finished this evening. However, the game crashes on me when trying to pick a clan while creating a new profile. It would probably work if I put it on my old XP rig with an Nvidia AGP card.... :lol:

Yep. XP compatibility mode and running as an administrator changed nothing. Zrigged at LanOhio is having the same problem. I just got back from a work trip this week, so I will have to tinker with it some this weekend.

After putting the /gosNoVideo switch at the end of the shortcut for starting the game, the profile freeze is gone. The game works perfectly now, but talk about old school! Wow.
