Metroid was the first game to popularize, or possibly even invent, speed-runs for games. It showed how long you took to complete the game and rewarded with alternate credit endings of Samus doing various poses or taking off her armor (ooh la-la!).
I own several Metroid games and I used to be very good at speed runs of Zero Mission.
