Steam client update was created by Lersar
Jan. 18th included:

"Fixed cloud games attempting to sync when the client is in offline mode"

Think this will solve the problems like we had at Bluth LAN?

maybe some of the problems. Part of the issue we had was some people were up to date and others were not.

How does it know that though? With no Internet connection, shouldn't Steam be under the impression that it is up-to-date, instead of looking for an update?

Right, I was just curious how that worked with Steam. With games without a client, of course, other versions just won't show up in lobbys and such. So in a Steam game, does it sense that there's a latest version on someone on the network and then try to update yours? You think it's possible that Steam games could ever update off someone's local computer who has the update?

they prob could set it to update from people. But I dont think they would, it would risk spreading viruses

The leader of INdysmash over the weekend was able to copy all the TF2 updates to a PC with a fresh install of the game. It's possible to do without the internet...
We had all kinds of issues with steam at the LAN, but i guess that was prior to the 18th, so maybe they are fixed!

im not sure how or where you could get just the updates but if we had the files we could host them up.

In the past we have just copyed over full directorys and hosted them on the server for people to install games without having to download them
