Me and ATI

So I have been having BSOD with my PC ever since I built it. The most common error I get is Atikmdag.sys. This is an error in the driver itself. I have found no fix for it as of yet.

Back to Nvidia I go. Looking at SLI'ed 480's. Why would I need 2? Well having three monitors rocks and I am not going back to two. So it's either 2 480's or 2 470's. Was looking at 2 460's but that is about the same as 1 480. Kinda sucks that Nvidia doesn't have a card that will support 3 monitors like ATI does.

It's been a good run ATI. But the BSOD's from your drivers failing has made me realize that Nvidia is were I belong.

I am going to sell my 5870 after I get my new GPU's. I would take no less than $350 for it.

I have searched long and hard for a fix but I have come to a crossroads. I know that everything else in my PC is fine. Not sure if it's a bad card which I don't think it is but with all the drivers that I have installed all of them have given me issues.

So know I have to wait for my refund check from school. Hopefully it show's up here soon. Dropping 1k on GPU's is not fun but with the amount of games that I know play on PC and all the time that I spend on it, I know that it will be a good investment.

Gonna try out a 460 at the LAN. Maybe i'll change my mind on them but you never know.

If anyone wants to make me an offer on the 5870, let me know.

Sure, I take installments. Let me know what you want to do. I will hold it for ya. I just really want to make sure that I get my refund from school first. I want there to be no question that I am buying new GPU's. I will make sure that you are first on the list JJ.

And you're sure it's a non-fixable ATI driver issue? Reported it to your vendor's tech support? Tried reinstalling Win X, Fully uninstalling and then downloading a newer driver, etc?

Judging from what I've read in 5 minutes on this issue, are you on.. Vista?

Posted my minidump files over on the windows 7 forums. Gonna see what people can find with my dump files, that just sounds bad. DUMP FILES FTW!!!! lol.

Hopefully it's just something really stupid that will be easy to fix. We shall see I guess.

What brand is it? Newegg has a few that are around 350$. Ill give you 280$ at the LAN if you want .

Well, looks like I have some bad RAM. I had problems with Corsair on my last build. Going to call them here after awhile and see what they can do for me. I know that they have a lifetime warranty for their RAM. On my last build I had a couple of bad sticks.

Well, no errors on Memtest but I did get an RMA # through Corsair. I also found out that the timings for the RAM were off. They needed to be set at 8-8-8-24 and they were not. Pretty sure that having the timings off could cause a problem.

Have you tried using modded ATI drivers like from NGOHQ or XG Warcat? I use Warcat's myself on my 4890 since they usually work better with shaders then ATI/AMD ones. Just a thought so you don't have to spend some money if you can get it working.

I am pretty damn sure that it's a RAM issue. I had another BSOD and a google search came up with RAM. No sweat, Wes is going to let me borrow some RAM then on Monday i'll ship mine out to Corsair. Gonna overnight it to them, I want to get this over with ASAP. These BSOD's are killing me.
