Back in October of last year, Athlon introduced its first Athlon II X3 triple-core processors, the 425 and 435. Working with the less than perfect yields from the Deneb and Propus dies, the Rana die was born. As yields improve, the processors can become more stable at higher clock speeds. In January 2010, the Athlon-II X3-440 was released; a 100MHz speed bump on the X3-435 processor. Now AMD is bumping the speed up by another 100MHz with the release of the X3-445 and the X3-450 is slated to come out later on this year. In this article Benchmark Reviews is closely examining the Athlon-II X3-445 ADX445WFK32GM to see what kind of power can be harnessed from this low-priced, triple-core, potentially unlockable 3.1GHz processor, especially when paired with AMDs newest 890G chipset.

This past February, AMD quietly launched the Radeon HD 5550 alongside the much more touted HD 5570. At about $10 less than that card, the HD 5550 is an unusual breed. To help put all of the pieces together, Sapphire sent us its "Ultimate" edition of the card, which uses reference clock speeds, but features a very effective passive cooler.

In the industry of technology, brands offering similar products without innovating will not be easily adopted by the enthusiast market. If we talk about memory, then the mayor factors are frequency, latency and of course... price. Intel specifications for Core i3/i5/i7 products recommend using a maximum DRAM voltage of 1.65v. While most brands try to fit on Intel´s limits on the high side, G.Skill is trying something different. The G.Skill ECO F3 10666CL7D 4GB Dual Channel Kit is intended to run at 1333MHz with barely 1.35 volts benefiting both high-end enthusiasts who want better Overclocks and lower temps, or simply those who want to build an HTPC an every shaved watt can be the difference. Benchmark Reviews will test the G.Skill ECO kit to check if this kind of memory is able to do that difference (considering that frequency and latency are not a major factor on Intel chipsets anymore).
