The suitcases are packed, the kids are calm and you’ve mentally prepared to travel during the holidays to spend time with extended family. Before you can unwind and catch up with relatives, there’s traffic to consider. Last year, AAA predicted 84.4 million Americans would travel by car during the holiday season. Assuming this year is similar, the last thing you want is to see that pesky “check engine” light with a car full of passengers while sitting in bumper to bumper traffic.

The Delphi Connect and the Delphi Connect with 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot, two new devices from Verizon Wireless, will make this holiday season a little calmer. The new Delphi Connect with Mobile Hotspot lets passengers connect up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices. With tablets providing mobile entertainment, travelers can watch their favorite television shows or movies on the road, or catch up with email and homework. And, the Wi-Fi connection in the car makes it easier to download a book to an e-reader and play games against friends online.

Before hitting the road, Delphi Connect can diagnose and check your car for potential problems. The small device plugs into the OBD-II port and syncs with the Delphi Connect app to give details about the car’s health and road readiness. Some of the diagnostics include fuel level and battery voltage, as well as some insight into why the check engine light comes on, helping you have a more informed discussion with the mechanic. The app also allows you to track a vehicle’s location, making it easy to locate a car in a parking lot, and turns a smartphone into a key fob to lock and unlock doors on compatible cars.

The Delphi Connect and Delphi Connect with 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot are available online today for $99.99 and $199.99 respectively. The two devices will be in Verizon Wireless stores starting Nov. 21. Users can add the Delphi Connect to their Share Everything account for $5 per month and a separate $5 monthly Delphi Connect Subscription Charge.
