I've got a 320g Seagate Momentus 7200 rpm 16 meg cache. in my laptop. anyone know
of any reliable program that can say with some reliability how much life is left in the drive?
I ran under dos the seagate tools program in extended test mode and everything came out fine.....
just want to know about, I guess how many read/write cycles it has left....
I swear on an HP laptop, hp had a program that could tell about how many are left....

Hope your suggestion is a freeware one. I don't want to spend money on it just for this...

You checked Seagate's site? For OCZ SSDs, they make a program for them. It flashes the firmware, secure erases, and reads the the smart data.

I did. I used seatools. it told me it was healthy. however I thought there was a program
that said about how many read/write cycles were left on a drive?

even if their was a program that did that, it would be guessing. There is no way to tell for sure how much life you have left. If it tested good then you shouldn't have to worry about it. S.M.A.R.T. does a good job of watching for problems

almost 0% chance to tell how much life a mechanical drive has left. When it dies it dies. It may last 10 years. it may last 3.
