First let me say I'm not sure if this is the proper category for this tech question. However, I think it does, but if an admin wants to move it feel free.

Okay here's where I need feed back from some people as to what direction I should take with a NAS/Game Server.

Currently I just have a 1 Tb WD usb drive attached to my main PC using Acronis or another program to make backups.

However:

I also have this and not sure it’s worth the time and effort to get it up and going:

h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF06a/1...325344-12297848.html

Keep in mind that if you click on the link that is for a brand new one. Mine is not brand new and isn’t completely like the one listed. The basic lay out is the same.

It’s a HP ProLiant DL100 G2 Data Protection Storage Server (this is how mine looks now):

OS-Currently Windows 2003 Server Sp2 Standard

CPU- 2.8 Celeron D Socket 775 (obviously can be upgraded to a decent dual core pretty cheap)
Ram- 4 gb PC2-6400 (had 1.5 I upgraded it)
2 Gigabyte Network Jacks on the back
2 Usb 2.0 ports on the back along with, PS2 mouse, keyboard.
2 Usb 2.0 ports on the front
1 DVD-Rom think it’s an 8x from Teac.
Video Ram is a paltry 8 meg, but that is to be expected for what it is and use to be used for.

I have 4 110 Sata Drives In Raid Configuration for 430 gbs of storage. Might be off on the total size of the drives/individual drives. I know that with looking at the Board model/bios specs it will take larger drives.

It also has two add in cards I don't remember what they are off hand. I'll add this later. Might help with deciding what do to with it.

Below Shows a little more of what its capable of if I do more upgrades:

Processor (1) Intel Pentium D 3.0 GHz Dual Core/800 MHz FSB - 2MB L2
Cache
Memory 1 GB of memory standard, expandable to 4 GB

Models)

RAID controller 1TB/2TB models. Available for SCSI HBA in 3TB
and 6TB models)
Network Controller Embedded Dual Port Broadcom 5751 and 5721 10/100/1000 NIC

2U rack mount (per MSA20 on 3TB and 6TB models)
Power Supply 350w (single, non-redundant)
Fans 9 chassis fans, 2 power supply fans (non-redundant)

Also have a next to brand new Rail Kit with it. To my knowledge it was never used. Was still sealed in the box.

Here is another Area of Concern its weight:

The unit alone weight about 25 lbs. Believe the Rail kit would be right about 75lbs.
However I could just put up a big shelf with large wall anchors to the wall studs.

***Update***

Shortly after I typed all this up, the onboard Video might have taken a dive. I did some trouble shooting, but not everything that could be done yet.

This may dump the entire idea out the window. :(
