Intel 750 Series SSD to match

So the two GTX 1080 Founders Edition’s came out amazing after I painted them and they look great in the build. The only problem was I knew as soon as I put everything back together I was going to have to put the Intel 750 Series SSD back right in front of them. It’s an amazing piece of hardware, but now that the video cards match everything the silver finish on the SSD was really going to stand out on that orange and black backdrop. Check out the build before the SSD was installed

I was considering painting the drive as well but before jumping to that I wanted to toy with the idea of using vinyl. Like the Plasti-Dip it is also not permanent, but more importantly, I already had it all on hand because I have my own plotter (vinyl cutter). Before getting fancy with anything I grabbed my flat black vinyl and coated the front of the drive. I did this by cutting a piece down a little larger than the area I wanted to cover then laying it out carefully and then using a blade to trim around the edge to cut it to the right size.

From there I busted out the orange vinyl and my plotter and cut a few stickers to bring the 750 series branding back onto the now black drive. I kept it simple but I think the logos came out good. You will also notice I also cut GeForce GTX logos and was toying with covering the green logos on the two GTX 1080’s. It took a while but I did get the sizing perfect but when I went to put them on I couldn’t get then to stick. I might revisit that project but I took it as a sign and went back to working on the SSD.

Here is a short with the now covered drive and the video cards before I put everything back together. I had a few complaints. For one I wish I would have wrapped the black up over the top of the card but at this point, I was far along into the project that I didn’t want to start over. My other issue was the huge PCI bracket for the drive that was also all silver.

To fix that I removed the bracket and painted it satin black to match everything. It took multiple coats, especially with the weird bracket shape but the end result looks much better blacked out.

From there I just had to get everything back into Crush. The video cards went right in and looked amazing, as expected. But I was surprised with just how happy I ended up being with recovering the SSD as well. I may still go back and redo it all and cover the top of the drive because even as I sit here from my desk I look down at the PC and I see the silver/white top more than anything. But beyond that, the refinished SSD really helps bring everything together
