IMG_4758 [lr] [lrsm]I recently decided to jump onto the Netbook bandwagon (a little late) as a portable replacement for my 14.1 inch laptop. The smaller size of my 10 inch Netbook gave me the ability to carry it on me most of the time without a heavy laptop bag slowing me down. Of course, this means that it is being transported with almost no protection. While looking into options I was peeking around at the Choiix website remembering that they had a lot of creative solutions for Netbooks at CES. A small professional sleeve caught my eye called the Easy Fit Netbook Sleeve. Today I am going to see how well this sleeve performs in everyday use. Will it protect your Netbook from damage? I will soon find out.

Packaging

The packaging for the Easy Fit Netbook Sleeve was simple elegant and very easy to open. Choiix packaged the sleeve inside of a clear plastic bag making it very easy to see what you are getting while still protecting it from any damage. Keeping the bag closed was a zip lock bag style seal making it very easy to open up. All of the features and specifications along with ads for other Choiix products could be found on the collection of tags attached to the bag similar to the tags I saw on the Air-Through that I tested previously. Choiix put a netbook sized piece of Styrofoam inside of the sleep to help keep its shape during shipping. IMG_4752 [lr] IMG_4753 [lr] IMG_4754 [lr] IMG_4755 [lr]

Installation

Installing the Sleeve was fairly uncomplicated. The netbook (I used a Eee PC 1000HE) slides under the two elastic straps designed to hold it in place, one at the top of the screen and the 2nd is between the keyboard and the monitor. The wrist rest is held down at each corner with an elastic/PU leather strap to keep the netbook from sliding around. At this point everything is secure, when you close everything up there is a strap that keeps the sleeve latched.

Performance

My first impression of the Easy Fit Netbook Sleeve was its professional styling, but I was concerned that it would get tore up quickly being tossed around by me every day. It didn't take long to realize that not only did the case do a great job protecting my netbook, it also help up great to my abuse. It handled me sitting it down in water without skipping a beat, although I doubt it would handle more than a small amount of water. I did run into an issue where the top strap on the monitor likes to slide off when you open the screen up very much, I was able to get around that issue by folding the bent a few times training it, this kept it from pushing up and sliding the strap off. I found with the case included on my netbook it was noticeably heavier (from 2.5lbs to 3lbs), the half pound isn't a lot but when added to the light weight of the netbook it adds up quickly.

Overall

Choiix set out to design a sleeve that was easy to install with good styling and durability. On all of those issues, Choiix did a great job, proving that a case doesn't have to be complicated or bulky. I did have a few issues with the top elastic strap blocking my webcam and popping off. But considering how well the sleeve protected my netbook a few small issues are expected. The professional styling reminded me of a planner. It wouldn't look out of place sitting on the side of a desk or in a suitcase. I'm sure some people would like to see something with a little more zest or color,  if that's the case this isn't for you. But if their past products are an indication, I'm sure they will have something for you soon.
