For years now Logitech has had their top notch Logitech Gaming Software that combines all of the software for their gaming devices. That means you only need one program for all of your Logitech products, even if you are running multiple mice, headsets, or keyboards. When you boot up the software with the G402 plugged in it picks up the mouse and your other Logitech products. Down on the bottom you can flip through all of the devices plugged in. For the G402 the home screen has a large photo of the G402. The home page keeps things simple, its only option is if you want to save your profiles to your mouse or just to the software. I prefer to always keep everything on the mouse. This way if you switch PCs you will take your settings with you, without even having to install the program.

Down along the bottom you can select from the five different setting pages. Beyond the home screen the next tab is the mouse settings page. Here the image of the G402 has lines going to each of the buttons with a box that you can click on and select from macros, media functions, or even the ability to open up programs. This page also lets you set the DPI speed and USB report rate. You can set up too 5 different DPIs to flip through but I turned all but one off to lock the G402 into my preferred DPI.

The next tab is the lighting page. The G402 doesn’t have much going on for lighting though so here you can set the brightness of the G logo and select if you prefer it to have a breathing effect. You can even set the breathing speed as well. Beyond that you can set the DPI LEDs to always be on and you can turn on a lighting sleep timer.

The next tab is a new one, when we open it up it has two speed dials and an on and off switch for Logitech’s Fusion Engine. What they are doing here is trying to show the difference in IPS (inches per second) that turning the Fusion Engine on does. Basically this is how fast the mouse can process your movement. Logitech advertises this as the fastest mouse ever. Frankly I’m not really seeing how this affects me or you. I’ve never moved my mouse around quick enough that I was worried that the mouse wouldn’t be able to catch up.

The last tab is also new, this is similar to what Razer and SteelSeries has done in the past as well. Basically you can start recording and it will show you what mouse buttons you are using the most of over a period of time. In the end they map it out over an image of the mouse itself to show what gets used the most. I do like that they included this but I would be interested in seeing them expand this like Razer has done. Razer records all of the time and then breaks down by what games you are using to help you change your most used macros to the easiest to reach buttons.
