Certification of new products extends GIGABYTE SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0) motherboard support with full range of USB 3.0 certified models for various price points and feature sets

City of Industry, CA, March 2, 2010 - GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co., Ltd, a leading manufacturer of motherboards, graphics cards and other computing hardware solutions today proudly announced that the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has certified the GA-P55A-UD7 and GA-P55A-UD5 motherboards as compliant with the USB 3.0 specification, and has listed these motherboards on the SuperSpeed USB Compliance Web page. The motherboards represent a high-end and mainstream option, respectively, while the GA-P55A-UD3, which achieved certification at the end of 2009, completes the range with an entry level USB 3.0 motherboard option. The complete list of Certified GIGABYTE motherboards can be found on the SuperSpeed USB Compliance Web page, and more GIGABYTE USB 3.0 products are expected to be listed in the near-term.

GIGABYTE is aggressively adopting USB 3.0 on an unequalled range of platforms, including the Intel® X58, P55, H57, H55, P45 and P43 chipsets, as well as the AMD 790FX, 790X, 770, 785G chipsets and soon to be released 800 series of chipsets. In addition to providing USB 3.0 on its motherboards, GIGABYTE is working with USB 3.0 device vendors to develop the USB 3.0 ecosystem through cross-validation, debugging and co-promotion activities. “We are investing heavily in developing the USB 3.0 ecosystem and are overjoyed to see that the majority of motherboards listed on the SuperSpeed USB Compliance Web page are from GIGABYTE,” said Henry Kao, Senior Vice President, Motherboard Business Unit, GIGABYTE Technology Co. Ltd. “As the Windows® 7 upgrade cycle progresses, we are finding that onboard USB 3.0 is a powerful deal clincher as consumers look to future-proof their new purchases with the very latest technologies and specifications. As such, the timing for the introduction of USB 3.0 could not be better, and we are excited about working with the USB-IF to ramp up SuperSpeed adoption and explore the new possibilities that it has to offer.”

SuperSpeed USB 3.0

GIGABYTE USB 3.0 motherboards are able to support SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0) technology, the latest iteration of USB, through use of an onboard NEC uPD720200 host controller. With super fast transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps, users are able to experience up to 10x faster data transfer rates over Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0). Additionally, backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 assures users continued use of their legacy USB 2.0 devices. SuperSpeed USB technology also provides new power management features, including increased maximum bus power and device current draw to better accommodate high power devices.

“We compliment GIGABYTE on their early support and adoption of SuperSpeed USB technology as well as the work they are conducting with other USB technology partners within the SuperSpeed USB ecosystem,” commented Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF president and chairman. “We anticipate the continued introduction of exciting new SuperSpeed USB products into the market, and look forward to consumers worldwide enjoying the benefits of SuperSpeed USB technology.”

3x USB Power Boost

The GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD7, GA-P55A-UD5 and GA-P55A-UD3 motherboards feature a 3x USB power boost, delivering greater compatibility and additional power for USB devices. GIGABYTE’s unique USB power design efficiently regulates output over the full voltage range, which further enhances USB device compatibility. In addition, dedicated lower resistance fuses ensure lower voltage drops, and provide more stable and plentiful power delivery.
