One thing i've noticed on the widers screens, they are making them shorter but wider. My brother-in-law got a new 23" widescreen and the screen is long/wide, but it's not as tall as my 22" widescreens that i have for my wife and myself. Is that a good tradeoff? or is the resolution different enough that it doesn't matter? Obviously i haven't really researched it out, but i bet some smart LAN OC person will know off the top of their head what the deal is!

wide-screens come in two different aspect ratios

16:9 and 16:10

16:9 is wider and shorter, this is also the same used with HDTV and BluRay movies
example: 1920 x 1080

16:10 is what i prefer, I can run a game in 1080p in windowed mode and still have room for the top bar and start menu at the bottom.
example : 1920 x 1200

I guess i thought all widescreens were created equal and they were just trying to get cheap and make them only 16x9...

My 17'' is currently cracked and has several dead horizontal and vertical rows.

I try to use the upper-right corner. :P

I'm with you on this. I find 16:9 to be too wide for my purposes. 16:10 is great for games. I have a 22" and 19" monitor on my desktop, one is 1680x1050 the other 1440x900, and it's perfect. 16:10 is a great balance, because it's not too wide, but wide enough if you need to work on multiple things on one monitor.
