Hawkings: Dont talk to aliens

In this article Hawking states that he believes "that extraterrestrials are almost certain to exist". However instead of making every effort to contact alien life Humanity should be trying to avoid them. He further comments that if there were alien life intelligent enough to communicate with and they were advanced enough to reach us. That they would most likely leech our planet for our resources.

I personally have no doubt that there is alien life. That, like Hawking states, it is atleast at the microbe level. Further i think that for humanity to think that were the only intelligent life forms is at worst overwhelmingly arrogant, and at best a head in the sand mentality. I feel that a civilization capable of reaching us through space, breaking barriers that we have yet to be able to break ourselves they will be technologically advanced as well as morally advanced. I find the timing of this article quite ironic since it coincides with the Home video release of Avatar. A movie, where we humans invade a peaceful planets society and attempts to overturn it to strip mine it for its resources. I guess this is most likely his way of simply saying " look we know what we'd do... do you really think another civilization would be any different?"

hes afraid they would exploit us for our icecream recipes,, and then mark us as useless afterwards to the rest of the space community.

they make real fruit bars that you can get at Scotts or Kroger ( super value) theyre pretty good...
