Absolute bullshit in the same way Diablo 3's real money AH was considered a slot machine in some countries.

It certainly sucks, but I'd be happy if LAN parties were popular enough stateside to even get to the point where lawmakers would consider a tax.

That is ridiculous. Next they will say if you have a public wifi you have to have a permit for it, because people come in and connect their computers together and surf the web.. that is essentially the same as gambling.

yeah it really seems like they just don't understand what LAN's are in this case. They have to be considering money pay out tournaments as a form of gambling

When was the last time you saw a politician / lawmaker that was "in touch" with the real world? They wanted more money, they found a way. It will only hurt the community. Sadly, it would take far more money in lobbying than the community will likely be able to pay to fight it.

Good grief. Before long, we're going to start to see "underground" LANs becoming a thing, like rave parties did so many years ago. What a fucking joke.

If you look up more information on it, it's clear that Lan parties are not taxed. If a computer Cafe charges you to use their computer to game, that cafe has to pay the tax. So Lan parties are safe.

This makes more sense. Still stupid in its own right but a little less evasive.
