Best CPU Cooler Performance LGA1366 – Q1 2009 @ Benchmark Reviews

March 25th, 2009

Throughout all of 2008, I made it my mission to test every high-performance CPU cooler that Benchmark Reviews received. The Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors did their part to separate the cream of the crop from our large collection of LGA775 coolers. In our previous Best CPU Cooler Performance article, Benchmark Reviews retired the LGA775 platform from its testing duties and made room for the up-and-coming LGA1366 socket. It didn’t take long to collect several CPU coolers designed for the Intel Core i7 CPU & X58 platform. This Best CPU Cooler Performance LGA1366 – Q1 2009 article focuses on a ! wide selection of performance-cooling products for overclockers. It’s a mistake to think that any LGA775 cooler can do just as well with the new LGA1366/Core i7 platform; primarily because the size and location of processor cores has changed.

We have tested CPU heatsinks in many different shapes and sizes. Some are ugly and sin but perform amazingly. Others have lights and other features to get your attention but at the end of the day do not outperform comparable heatsinks without all of the flash. Thermalright, a well-known and respected heatsink manufacture has produced a stylized black version of one of their best performing models the TRUE 120. Today we are going to find out how it compares against the other heatsinks that we have tested in the past. If looks are anything to go by (and we have found in the past that they are not) the TRUE Black 120 from Thermalright should blow everyone out of the water.

Gelid Solutions Silent CPU Cooler

November 6th, 2008

A little over two months ago, we were very excited about an upcoming company called Gelid Solutions. At the time, we had already seen great performance from their thermal paste. We also gave their WING series fan a 5 out of 5. Because of this, I was very excited to hear that they are moving into the heatsink market. They sent out their Silent Spirit CPU cooler for us to check out. To be clear, this cooler was designed to perform well but focuses on keeping the noise to a minimum. Perfect for HTPC’s and people who aren’t looking for extreme cooling solutions.  We are going to take a closer look to find out if Gelid Solutions can keep up the streak.
