Taipei, Taiwan, September 20, 2011 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. today announced its first 12-drive 2U rack-mountable Turbo NAS models with up to 36TB storage capacity: the TS-EC1279U-RP and TS-1279U-RP, powered by Quad-core Intel® Xeon® CPU and Dual-core Intel® Core i3 CPU respectively. Both models are backed with 3 year warranty and feature optional 10GbE networking and can achieve breakthrough data throughput of over 1,000MB/sec and 100,000 IOPS using 10GbE, delivering ultra-high performance suitable for high-end SMB and data center environments demanding efficient and large capacity storage solutions, and continuous up-time for mission critical applications.

The new models can simultaneously provide storage solutions for IP-SAN (iSCSI) and NAS implementations. "Being VMware® Ready, Citrix® XenServer Ready, and Windows® Hyper-V compliant, the new series is ideal for providing network shared storage for virtual server environments," said David Tsao, product manager of QNAP. “Redundant power supplies are provided on both new models to ensure continuous system up-time,” Tsao added. “The TS-EC1279U-RP with ECC RAM further enhances system reliability.”

The new series supports RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 6, 5+ hot spare, 6+ hot spare, 10+ hot spare, single disk, JBOD, and the Global Hot Spare allowing a spare drive to flexibly replace a failed drive on any RAID volume on the NAS for automatic RAID data rebuilding. The large capacity of the new units also provide an ideal solution for network-wide backups, file sharing in mixed Windows®, Mac®, Linux, and UNIX environments, private cloud storage, and high-performance computing applications such as high definition video editing.

By upgrading to QNAP’s latest NAS firmware V3.5, which is available at QNAP’s official website, the new series will be able to be added to an LDAP server and allow access for LDAP domain users; scan the server and delete or quarantine files infected by viruses, malware, Trojans, and other malicious threats; support syslog serve to collect, parse, analyze, and store system messages from various servers or network devices, to name few.

“Today's business environment requires network attached storage solutions that provide efficient data access. Intel Xeon processors enable energy efficient and high performance solutions with integrated data protection features such as ECC memory,” said David Tuhy, General Manager, Intel Data Center Group Storage. “Intel technology powers a broad range of innovative solutions, including the Intel Core i3 processor family for entry level data storage.”
