Whose going to jump on the band wagon and get either their free upgrade or buy it at the end of July when released?

I'm waiting, but plan on upgrading and trying to get our PCs all on one OS. My only concern right now is if upgrading will lock my retail copies to one PC like an OEM key

All of my systems are on OEM keys to begin with. I plan to upgrade shortly after launch for the fun of it.

It's still free; however per the article Microsoft might charge for updates to Windows 10 after 2 years.

Anybody upgrading today? Or are you going to sit out and wait a week/month/11 months then upgrade?

Upgrading to any OS on day one is typically a bad idea. That being said I'll probably stick to 7 for a good long while.

I have put 10 on 2 of 4 home systems yesterday. I like it so far. My file server upgraded with no issues (older hardware with limited applications installed).

My gaming rig was a different story. The upgrade hung during application setup at the end of the upgrade. I had to do a hard restart, which allowed the system to boot to the desktop, but many applications were screwed (system settings, Edge browser, etc). Windows activated, though, critical for being able to do a clean install.

So, I took the media creation tool, and I made a bootable USB stick. Did a clean install of 10 and reloaded everything. The only application I had issue with was CyberLink PowerDVD 12 Ultra. Those bastards at CyberLink decided they did not have enough of my money and invalidated the Publisher certificate for Windows 10. There is no way to install version 12, and they are offering a sale to get me on version 15 for only $75...bastards. I figure that is what hung my upgrade.

Otherwise, I like the OS, and have not had issues with SLI or gaming thus far. The real test will come at ForgeLAN next weekend.

Update: 4 of 4 systems now updated. 3 of 4 went through the upgrade without issue.

I have 7 machines, and I have only got the update go ahead one so far. One I installed the insider preview so it has been live for a month, and I loving it. I wish the other 5 would get their update.

did you just use your Windows 7 key to activate it?

There is no key needed to activate. use the tool select upgrade now on an existing install of 7/8. The upgrade will run and create a hardware key hash on MS server. Then from that point on you can clean install and say skip key and next time unit is online it will auto activate with MS servers as long as all the hardware is the same.
